The New trend of Examinations is very tricky for our students. Students preparing for NEXT or NEW NEET PG pattern have to change their study pattern. As a result of new changes, one has to focus on a different set of questionnaire.
The New trends suggest a more concept based approach for studying, Our experts saw a large chunk of questions asked from Histology, Pathology and which comes under section of Image Based questions.
So what exactly a student know. To give an idea we suggest reading in a manner as listed below. A NEXT Aspirant should be able to answer the question like
Q. The Kidney is histologically what type of Gland. A MBBS Student should exactly know the classification of Glands.
The classification of glands is as:
Simple tubular | Intestinal glands |
Simple branched tubular | Glands of stomach |
Simple coiled tubular | Sweat glands |
Compound tubular | Kidneys, liver |
Q. Glucagon is secreted by what type of cells. The MBBS Student should exactly know the different types of cells.
A Cells (Alpha Cells): are large oval cells about 20-25 percent. They are acidophilic and in response to low blood glucose, these cells secrete glucagon, whose effects are opposite to those produced by insulin.
B Cells (Beta Cells): The most numerous cell types (70-75 percent) in the islets, these cells secrete insulin in response to high blood glucose. They are smaller in size and basophilic in nature. Hyperplasia and neoplasia of the B cells may result in hyperinsulinism syndrome, characterized by hypoglycemia.
Q. Where are Myoepithelial Cells commonly found?
The next Aspirant should exactly know what Myoepithelial cells are
Myoepithelial cells cells (sometimes referred to as Myoepithelium) are cells usually found in glandular epithelium as a thin layer above the basement membrane but generally beneath the luminal cells. These may be positive for alpha smooth muscle actin and can contract and expel the secretions of exocrine glands. They are found in the sweat gland, mammary gland, lacrimal gland, and salivary gland. Myoepithelial cells in these cases constitute the basal layer of an epithelium that harbors the epithelial progenitor/stem cells. In the case of wound healing, myoepithelial cells reactively proliferate.
Q. What do the Ependymal cells line?
The next Aspirant should exactly know what Ependymal Cells are
Ependymal Cells:
These cells are different in that they line the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. They have the characteristics of the squamous type of epithelium and possess microvilli on their free surface which facilitates the movement of CSF.These cells secrete substances into the CSF or absorb substances from the CSF.
This means a student has to be well versed with all minor and major details asked in histology starting from Basic Histology to Clinically oriented Histology
As far as Image Based Questions are Concerned. One should know to identify different slides like
Q. Identify the Micro anatomical picture shown in the figure below:
Image Based NEET PG / NEXT Question slide Recognition

Q. An Anatomy teacher is showing slides of histology to his students. On having a look at the slide he notes excessive crypts . These Crypts are a feature of
- Tonsil
- Spleen
- Thymus
- Lymph nodes
Ans: A Tonsil
Q. An Anatomy teacher is showing slides of histology to his students. On having a look at the slide he notices white pulp. The White pulp is seen in
- Tonsil
- Spleen
- Thymus
- Lymph nodes
Ans: B Spleen
Q. An Anatomy teacher is showing slides of histology to his students. On having a look at the slide he notes “ Kuffer cells ”with special stains applied to the slide. These special cells are seen in :
- Liver
- Spleen
- Thymus
- Lymph nodes
Ans: A Liver
The Purpose is to pin point and exactly tell the student what to study and what to focus on. These points are very important and a student should have online experience. This online experience helps in improving scores. Our experts at Medexams recommend to study histology from DiFores Atlas, IB Singh Histology That would be sufficient. Concentrate on Image Based questions and the conceptual. For more details on NEXT and NEET PG exams ahead we recommend you to visit www.medexamsprep.com
